You can fix the most common problems yourself!
You can fix your computer!
The number 1 & 2 reasons we are called for service:
#1 reason: Spyware & Viruses
Spyware:
The number one complaint is a slow and balky computer.
Usually, running a program like Malwarebytes takes care of
the problem. It's free, easy to install and easy to use. This normally
only needs to be run when you feel your computer has slowed down again.

Virus protection:
Norton and McAfee are the best rated antivirus programs available
(according to Consumer Reports Magazine which rates them equally the
best). However if you are on a budget, Grisoft's AVG is very good,
there's a free version for home users and you'll save $50 a year! See

#2 reason: Can't connect to the Internet
High Speed Internet Users.
Most users have what's called a dynamic connection. Basically this means
that each time the modem is turned on you get a new and different
"address" to connect to the internet. Unfortunately your computer (and
router) and modem can't sense if there has been a change in address.
It's like the Post Office delivering your mail to the wrong address --
you can't get online.
Here's the easy do it yourself fix.
First turn off your computer.
Second unplug your router's (if you have one, it's the thing with the
antennas) power cord from the wall socket. Leave all the other wires
connected.
Third unplug your modem's power cord from the wall socket. Same here:
Leave all the other wires connected.
(If you have bundled phone service, there is an additional step, you
will need to remove the battery pack from the modem -- it's easy, move
the lock slide to release the battery and pull it out, wait 30 seconds
and then replace it.)
Now we need to power these items up in a certain order.
First plug the modem back into the wall and wait for the lights on the
front panel to finish flashing and remain lite. (If you called support
they will tell you that this may take up to 15 minutes, normally it
takes 2 or 3. Be patient. If you get this step wrong it will not work.)
Next plug the router (if you have one) and wait a minute or two for that
to finish setting itself up.
Now turn on your computer and enjoy the Internet.
Dial up users:
Florida experiences the most lightning strikes anywhere in North
America. Modems are very susceptible. Remember it is more important to
unplug the phone line during a storm than the power plug. Call your
internet service provider first, they will help you to test your modem.
If it has been damaged by lightning, replacement is very easy. Simply
open the case (usually only 2 screws) and plug in the new modem (one
screw). Then when you turn your computer back on, it will ask for the CD
that came with the modem, put it in the CD-ROM drive and click OK.
That's all there is to it.
High Speed:
Your provider occasionally resets their equipment. Sometimes your
connection seems very slow. A quick fix is to turn off your computer and
unplug the power from you high speed modem. Plug the modem back in and
wait a few minutes for it to reset the connection to the internet and
then turn your computer back on. A quick and easy fix.
